Independent Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Adil Khan Bazai strongly criticized the federal budget during a speech in the National Assembly, calling it an “IMF budget” and arguing that it fails to address the needs of ordinary citizens, particularly those in Balochistan.
Speaking during the budget debate, Bazai questioned the government’s commitment to resolving economic challenges and claimed that Balochistan had been neglected in the allocation of development resources. He challenged the government to identify major projects in the province related to health, education, water, or security, arguing that the people of Balochistan continue to face deprivation despite the province’s strategic and natural resources.
The lawmaker stated that residents of his constituency, NA-262 Quetta, regularly ask what benefits the federal budget brings to their region, including schools, colleges, hospitals, and sports facilities. He maintained that the province has not received adequate funding and called for greater federal attention to its development needs.
Bazai also referred to the “Form 47” controversy and criticized the government’s political legitimacy, claiming that opposition lawmakers continue to face marginalization. He argued that the budget belongs to all Pakistanis and should serve the interests of the country’s entire population rather than a select group.
During his address, the MNA questioned the government’s economic policies, asking why additional borrowing remains necessary if the economy is improving. He also criticized what he described as the concentration of wealth among the ruling elite while ordinary citizens struggle with rising living costs.
A significant portion of the speech focused on former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Bazai defended the PTI founder, criticized his imprisonment, and claimed that Khan continues to enjoy widespread public support. He further called for greater political freedom and democratic participation in the country.
The lawmaker also raised concerns about security and governance issues across various provinces, including Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, and Azad Kashmir. He questioned government policies and urged lawmakers to address public grievances more effectively.
Concluding his speech, Bazai highlighted the economic difficulties faced by low-income workers, noting that many families struggle to meet expenses related to electricity, gas, and other household necessities. He urged policymakers to prioritize the welfare of ordinary citizens while formulating economic policies and development plans.
The National Assembly continues discussions on the federal budget as lawmakers from both treasury and opposition benches debate the government’s economic agenda.
