Pakistan to Host US-Iran Peace Agreement Signing Ceremony in Geneva

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan will host the signing ceremony of the US-Iran peace agreement in Geneva on June 19, marking a major diplomatic breakthrough after more than three months of conflict.

Addressing the National Assembly on Monday, the prime minister described the agreement as a historic achievement for peace and dialogue. He said the deal would formally end hostilities between the United States and Iran and help restore stability in the region.

Under the agreement, both countries have agreed on a framework to end the war, lift the US blockade on Iran, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The two sides have also declared an immediate and permanent end to military operations, including in Lebanon.

The conflict began in February after military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran. Pakistan played an active role throughout the crisis, facilitating dialogue and hosting the first round of negotiations in Islamabad earlier this year.

PM Shehbaz said the agreement reflects the power of diplomacy and peaceful engagement. He congratulated the people of Pakistan and the international community, calling the development a victory for peace.

The prime minister acknowledged the support of political leaders and international partners who contributed to the peace process. He specifically thanked Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Chinese President Xi Jinping for their cooperation.

He also praised Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for his role in supporting negotiations and helping maintain diplomatic momentum during critical stages of the talks.

PM Shehbaz further commended Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their efforts in advancing the peace initiative.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif described the agreement as a historic diplomatic success and praised Pakistan’s leadership for helping bring both sides closer to a peaceful resolution.

PTI leader Sardar Latif Khosa welcomed the development and expressed hope that the agreement would be formally signed as scheduled in Geneva.

The upcoming signing ceremony is being viewed as a significant diplomatic milestone, with Pakistan receiving international recognition for its role in promoting dialogue and regional stability.
