Islamabad:
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have issued a weather alert in view of severe weather conditions expected in various parts of the country. Relevant authorities have directed citizens, district administrations, and emergency response agencies to take precautionary measures to deal with any potential emergencies.
According to the NDMA, strong winds, thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and isolated hailstorms are expected in the upper regions of the country, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan from June 2 to June 6. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also forecast rain and gusty winds in several cities between June 2 and June 5.
The alert warns that heavy rainfall may lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas, landslides in mountainous regions, and increased water levels in seasonal streams and nullahs. The NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) has instructed all relevant departments to remain on high alert and ensure timely implementation of safety measures.
Several districts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Sialkot, are expected to experience rain and windstorms. Authorities have also warned of possible landslides in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir due to heavy rainfall.
The PDMA has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from weak structures and electricity poles, and follow safety precautions during adverse weather conditions. Tourists visiting northern and hilly areas have also been urged to exercise caution and stay informed about weather developments.
Authorities have emphasized that in the event of any emergency, citizens should follow instructions issued by local administrations and rescue services.
Weather experts warn that strong winds, hailstorms, and heavy downpours could disrupt daily life, transportation, and traffic flow in several areas. Citizens are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and official advisories.
