Tensions between the United States and Iran have sharply intensified after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards launched missile and drone attacks on multiple US military positions in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain on Wednesday.
The strikes were carried out in response to recent US military operations near the Strait of Hormuz. According to US officials, American forces targeted Iranian air defence systems, radar installations, and surveillance facilities after Tehran allegedly downed a US Apache helicopter operating near the strategic waterway.
Iran claimed that more than 20 targets across the Gulf region were successfully struck. However, US officials said the majority of incoming missiles and drones were intercepted, with no significant damage or casualties reported.
The latest exchange represents one of the most serious confrontations between Washington and Tehran since the ceasefire agreement reached in April. Analysts warn that further escalation could increase instability across the Middle East, threaten regional security, and disrupt global energy markets through potential impacts on Gulf oil shipping routes.
