82% of Pakistani Consumers Now Use AI for Shopping, Visa Study Reveals

AI is rapidly becoming a digital shopping assistant across Pakistan

A recent study by Visa highlights a major shift in consumer behavior in Pakistan, with 82% of users now relying on AI tools during their shopping journey. These tools are commonly used for comparing prices, checking product reviews, and discovering gift ideas.

The report, part of Visa’s Stay Secure 2026 research, also shows that 93% of consumers believe AI has made online shopping faster and more convenient, signaling strong acceptance of AI as a daily digital assistant in e-commerce.

Strong Adoption, But Trust Gap Remains

Despite high usage rates, full automation is still far from acceptance.

Only 42% of Pakistani consumers are comfortable with AI handling checkout and completing purchases independently, indicating that while AI is trusted for research and recommendations, final payment decisions remain under human control.

This reflects a clear trust gap in the market. Consumers want efficiency, but they are still cautious about giving AI full authority over financial transactions.

AI Seen as a Tool Against Online Fraud

The study also points to growing confidence in AI’s security role.

  • 87% believe AI will significantly help prevent online fraud
  • 65% say AI already helps them detect scams and suspicious activity
  • However, 55% of users reported experiencing financial fraud in the past year, often linked to social media platforms

These numbers show a dual reality: rising trust in AI-driven protection, but persistent exposure to digital risks.

What This Means for Pakistan’s Digital Economy

AI is clearly becoming a central part of the online shopping ecosystem in Pakistan. However, adoption is outpacing trust in fully automated systems.

For businesses, the direction is clear:
Security, transparency, and user control will define who wins in the next phase of e-commerce growth.

As AI continues to expand across digital platforms, companies that balance convenience with trust will shape the future of online shopping in Pakistan.
