Pakistan’s Auto Industry Set for Major Shift as EVs and Hybrids Dominate New Vehicle Launches

Industry Overview

Pakistan’s automotive sector is on the verge of a major transformation, with electric and hybrid vehicles rapidly gaining ground over traditional petrol-powered cars.

Upcoming Vehicle Launches (2026 Outlook)

According to industry estimates, around 23 new vehicle models are expected to enter the Pakistani market between June and December 2026. Notably, 20 of these models will feature electric, hybrid, or range-extended technologies, meaning nearly 87% of upcoming launches will focus on cleaner and more fuel-efficient mobility solutions.

Role of International and Local Partnerships

Industry experts say the growing presence of Chinese automakers, in partnership with local companies, is playing a key role in accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) across the country.

Policy Framework Driving the Shift

Auto industry analyst Shafiq Ahmed Sheikh noted that this transition began under the Auto Industry Development and Export Policy 2021–26 and is expected to gain further momentum under the upcoming Auto Policy 2026–31.

Economic and Energy Impact

The government’s push toward transport electrification aims to reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported oil and LNG, potentially saving the economy up to $4.5 billion annually.

End Notes

As the country moves toward sustainable transportation, the expected influx of EVs and hybrid vehicles marks a significant milestone for Pakistan’s automotive industry and its broader economic future.
