Introduction:
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited has clarified that no domestic or industrial gas connections have been disconnected solely due to the use of “illegal gas load.” The company’s General Manager emphasised that while notices for excessive and unauthorised gas usage have been issued, no connection has been severed on that single basis.
Context of Enforcement Operations:
SNGPL has, however, been active in eliminating illegal gas connections and gas theft across its service area. Recent operations have included disconnecting meters used improperly and removing unauthorised extensions, particularly where residential meters were exploited for commercial gain.
Balancing Supply and System Stability:
Officials stated that cooperatively working with industry and consumers remains a priority, and that notices and enforcement action aim primarily at ensuring supply reliability. SNGPL continues to encourage compliance with legitimate usage policies.
Broader Enforcement History:
In previous extended crackdowns, SNGPL has disconnected hundreds of illegal connections and imposed fines exceeding Rs4 million to curb theft and ensure fairness in gas distribution.
